The Struggle is Real

Living with food allergies, diet restrictions, various illnesses, and other issues makes eating healthy a daily challenge for many people.  Those of you who choose to eat healthy, even without these issues, also know that foods today can certainly smell delicious, yet they are not making us feel well after we eat them.

Why is that? Well, it should not be a surprise to anyone.  A majority of our food choices today are chemically-altered, packed with preservatives, and loaded with extra junk our bodies were never meant to ingest.  Our mood, our energy, our performance, our health, and our potential are all impacted by what we eat (good or bad).

Join us as we journey into what is “in” our foods, what it is doing to us…it’s all about what we eat!!

Breakfast of Champions…or not?

What did you have for breakfast this morning?  How about this week?  We’ve been told breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right?  Right now, I am eating a bowl of oatmeal with raisins, sugar, and milk.  Guess what? Some of those ingredients are not helping me get started the right way today.  So, let’s break it down:

1.  Oats – actually are not terribly bad; they are actually on the alkalizing side of food, which means they will help me be more responsive and calm this morning.

2.  Raisins – not so calming for us; they fall on the reactive side of mood (more acidic), and could make me be a bit indecisive today.  That’s not what I need!

3.  White Sugar –  well, this is an all-around bad idea, but my most difficult challenge indeed!  Let’s just say, people tell me I am hyper most of the time, but this white sugar could also make me be more frustrated than anything today.

4.  Milk – UGH!  Milk has always been an issue for me, but now I am starting to see why.  It is one of the most acidic food items. It not only causes me digestive agitation, it also affects mood.  I wasn’t hoping for a less positive day ahead, but milk might make that a bit difficult for me.

My Food Made Me Mad?

Most of us plan our meals without a whole lot of thought about how our food impacts our minds.   We see lots of advertisements that talk about energy and weight benefits from our diet, but few that talk about mood and behavior.  I think it’s time we had that talk.  How does what you eat impact your mood? Feel free to share  your own ideas here.
